Down Syndrome Centre
Down Syndrome Centre works to provide improved information and services to parents, families and carers of children with Down syndrome.
DSC has created and establised the role of Ireland's first Down Syndrome Liaison Nurse to the Paediatric Department of AMNCH Tallaght. The nurse provides support, advice and guidance to parents whose new born child has been born with Down syndrome in Dublin maternity hospitals and at home on request.
With the support of funds raised by Buy My Dress, we began funding the role in June 2009 and our aim is to support the employment of further liaison nurses to Cork and Galway in the short-term in 2010.
Our investment in the development of professionals who have an indepth knowledge and understanding of the disability and its associated medical complications, will provide a better future for all people born with this disability and their families.
